THE THEME PARK CAST

 

The THEME PARK IMPROV show's improvisers take a single suggestion of a theme from the audience, and wing an entire set of fast-paced long-form scenes and characters, based on stories from a special guest monologist. They’ve sold out shows at SF Sketchfest, Colossal Clusterfest, The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Moontower, Bentzen Ball, Seattle Festival of Improv Theater, The Vancouver Comedy Festival and The Rooftop Comedy Fest.

IAN BRENNAN

Ian Brennan is Co-Creator and Executive Producer of “Scream Queens” and “Glee,” which ran for six seasons on FOX and for which he is the recipient of two Golden Globe Awards. As an actor, he has performed at Playwrights' Horizons, the Vineyard Theatre and MCC Theatre in New York, as well as the Steppenwolf and Goodman Theatres in his hometown of Chicago. Ian performs weekly at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in LA as part of Harold Night with his team, Zoo Zoo.

RACHEL DRATCH

Rachel Dratch was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" for 7 years. Before that she was on the Mainstage of Second City Chicago for four years, where she wrote and performed with Adam McKay, Scott Adsit, and Tina Fey. She appeared in a bunch of TV shows, including "King of Queens" where she had a recurring role as Patton Oswalt’s girlfriend. She’s been in a bunch of movies, most of which are with Adam Sandler. Rachel is really into name-dropping. Her book, "Girl Walks into a Bar" was published by Gotham.

SIMON HELBERG

Simon Helberg is best known for portraying “Howard Wolowitz” in CBS’ awardwinning smash hit “The Big Bang Theory” which is the number one scripted show on television and currently in its 12th and final season. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance opposite Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant in Stephen Frears’ feature film “Florence Foster Jenkins.” Helberg also wrote, co-directed and starred opposite Melanie Lynskey, Alfred Molina and Zachary Quinto in the indie feature “We’ll Never Have Paris,” which premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival. Previously, he had a memorable role in the Coen Brothers’ film “A Serious Man.”

JOHN MICHAEL HIGGINS

John Michael Higgins is a member of the Christopher Guest “company,” starring in such films as "Best in Show" and "A Mighty Wind." After playing David Letterman in the HBO film "The Late Shift," Higgins’ career became centered in Hollywood. In addition to many animated series (like “Legend of Korra”), Michael has another twenty years of appearances on television shows ranging from "Seinfeld" to "CSI," from "Ally McBeal" and "Arrested Development" to "Kath and Kim" and the recently deceased "Happily Divorced." Movie audiences also know him for his work in the films of Vince Vaughn, "The Break-Up," "Fred Claus" and "Couples Retreat" and with Jim Carrey in "Fun With Dick and Jane" and "Yes Man." More recently it’s been "Pitch Perfect" and "Best Man Holiday," and he stars in the NBC comedy "Great News” and hosts “America Says” on GSN.

MICHAEL HITCHCOCK

As an actor, Michael Hitchcock has appeared in all of Christopher Guest’s award-winning films “Best in Show,” “Mascots,” “A Mighty Wind,” “For Your Consideration,” and “Waiting for Guffman.” Other films include “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” “Super 8,” “Bridesmaids,” “Serenity,” “Wild Hogs,” “Happy, Texas,” “Smiley Face,” and “Heartbreakers.” TV includes “Black Monday,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Bless The Harts,” “The Goldbergs,” “Trial and Error,” “Veep,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Glee,” “Nobodies,” “United States of Tara,” “Men of a Certain Age,” and “Arrested Development.”

Additionally, Hitchcock has been a writer and producer on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Glee,” and “Mad TV.” He is a proud alumnus of The Groundlings comedy troupe, and has performed comedy improvisation for the U.S. troops around the world with Stars for Stripes.

JESSICA MAKINSON

Jessica Makinson is an LA based actor/improviser/writer/director. She has been a series regular on "South Park," "Halfway Home" and "Trigger Happy TV," all for Comedy Central. Other credits include "The Great Indoors," "Maron" and "Modern Family." As an alumnus of iO West and UCBLA, she can currently be seen doing long form improv on Saturday nights @ 9pm in The Armando Show at iO West and with Theme Park Improv at comedy festivals around the country.

OSCAR NUñEZ

Oscar Nuñez is best known for playing Oscar Martinez on NBC's "The Office." He has won an Emmy, two SAG Awards, an ALMA Award, a TV Land Award and an Impact Award from the National Hispanic Media Coalition for the role. Oscar is also recognized for his roles in movies like "The Proposal," "The 33," and "Baywatch." He has guest starred on TV shows like "New Girl," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Life in Pieces," "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "American Housewife," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and lent his voice to animations like "Bob's Burgers," "The Life and Times of Tim," "Home" and the upcoming "3 Below" and "Where’s Waldo?" He has recurred on Showtime’s "Shameless," Comedy Central’s "Reno 911," and created and starred in his own Comedy Central series "Halfway Home." He was a series regular on the USA legal comedy, "Benched" and the TBS sci-fi comedy, "People of Earth." Next up, he stars in "Mr. Iglesias," premiering on Netflix in 2019.

COLE STRATTON

Cole Stratton is the co-founder of SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Comedy Festival. Along with Janet Varney, he has written & performed comedic commentary to films for RiffTrax.com, helmed by MST3K's Michael J. Nelson. He’s co-host of the Nerdist network's Pop My Culture Podcast, which just ended its seven year run. He has also guested on Never Not Funny, Dumb People Town, Voyage to the Stars, Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friends, Jordan Jesse Go!, Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction, Comedy Film Nerds and James Bonding, and is the permanent guest host of Alchemy This. TV & film credits include “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” “For All Mankind,”“American Horror Story,” “Good Girls,” “9-1-1-,”"Nash Bridges," "Yo Momma," "Comedy Colosseum."  "Dead Man on Campus," and the "The Selling," where he plays obnoxious office gossip Ed, a role which he reprised in "Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse." He played lead boy-bander Kip in Janet Varney’s “Fortune Rookie” series. As an improviser, Stratton tours with Theme Park and performs regularly at the Westside Comedy Theater with Cobranauts, Mission IMPROVable and Pretty, Pretty Pony.

JANET VARNEY

Janet is an Emmy-Nominated actor, comedian, writer and producer. She most recently starred as the horrible Becca on FXX’s "You’re the Worst," and she created, wrote and stars in the IFC series "Fortune Rookie.” JV can also be heard as the sarcastic AI “Sorry” on the sci-fi comedy podcast Voyage to the Stars with Colton Dunn, Felicia Day, Kirsten Vangsness, and Steve Berg. Her podcast The JV Club on the Maximum Fun network has been entertaining listeners with stories of guests' adolescences for seven years. She fought dark forces opposite John C. McGinley on three seasons of IFC’s "Stan Against Evil” and starred in seasons one and three of “Burning Love,” In the animation world, she was lucky enough to be the award-winning voice of Korra on Nickelodeon’s critically-acclaimed standout hit "The Legend of Korra.” In addition to numerous guest roles in television and film (both in character and as herself), Janet co-created, co-wrote and co- produced "Neil’s Puppet Dreams," a series featuring Neil Patrick Harris and his puppet-filled dreams, and can be seen on Geek & Sundry’s "Escape!" which she hosted and produced. She is Co-Founder and Co-Director of SF Sketchfest, The San Francisco Comedy Festival, now in its 19th year.
